Installation and Updates

Curlex is a native desktop app that installs in the same way as any other application on your computer. There is no account to create and no sign-in required.

Downloading Curlex

Go to the Curlex releases page and download the file for your platform:

PlatformFile to download
macOS — Apple Silicon (M1/M2/M3/M4)Curlex_x.x.x_aarch64.dmg
macOS — IntelCurlex_x.x.x_x64.dmg
WindowsCurlex_x.x.x_x64-setup.exe

Not sure which macOS build to pick? Click the Apple menu () → About This Mac. If it says "Apple M..." you need the aarch64 build. If it says "Intel Core..." you need the x64 build. Installing the wrong build will still work — macOS runs Intel apps on Apple Silicon via Rosetta — but the native build starts faster and uses less battery.

Installing on macOS

  1. Open the downloaded .dmg file. A window appears showing the Curlex icon and your Applications folder.
  2. Drag the Curlex icon onto the Applications folder.
  3. Eject the disk image (drag it to the Trash or press Cmd E).
  4. Open Finder → Applications and double-click Curlex to launch it.

"Curlex can't be opened because Apple cannot check it for malicious software"

If macOS shows this message the first time you open Curlex, it is because the app was downloaded from the internet rather than the Mac App Store. This is normal for open-source desktop applications.

To open it anyway:

  1. In Finder, navigate to your Applications folder.
  2. Right-click (or Control-click) Curlex.
  3. Choose Open from the context menu.
  4. Click Open in the confirmation dialog.

You only need to do this once. After the first launch, Curlex opens normally.

Installing on Windows

  1. Run the downloaded .exe installer.
  2. If Windows shows a "Windows protected your PC" SmartScreen warning, click More infoRun anyway. This message appears because the app is not yet widely distributed — it is safe to proceed.
  3. Follow the installer steps and click Install.
  4. Launch Curlex from the Start menu or the desktop shortcut.

First Launch

The first time Curlex opens, you land directly in the app — no sign-in, no welcome wizard. A default workspace is created automatically and is ready to use.

The window starts at 1 400 × 900 pixels and can be resized freely. The minimum supported window size is 800 × 600. For comfortable use of the two-panel request/response layout, a screen of 1 280 × 800 or wider is recommended.

Updates

Curlex checks for updates automatically in the background. When a new version is available, a notification appears inside the app.

Installing an Update

When an update is available:

  1. Curlex shows an Update available notification — either as a banner inside the app or via the Help menu.
  2. Click Download and install (or the equivalent button in the notification).
  3. Curlex downloads the update, applies it, and restarts.

You do not need to visit any website or re-run an installer. The entire process happens within the app.

Checking Manually

To check for an update without waiting for the automatic notification:

  • Go to Settings → About — the current version is shown there along with an option to check for updates.

Update Verification

All Curlex updates are signed. The app verifies the cryptographic signature before applying any update, so you cannot be served a tampered or corrupted build.

Uninstalling

macOS

Drag Curlex from your Applications folder to the Trash. To also remove all application data (collections, environments, settings):

  • Delete ~/Library/Application Support/com.stacktips.curlex

Windows

  1. Open Settings → Apps (Windows 10) or Settings → Apps → Installed apps (Windows 11).
  2. Find Curlex in the list and click Uninstall.

To also remove all application data:

  • Delete %APPDATA%\com.stacktips.curlex

Multiple Versions

Running two versions of Curlex simultaneously on the same machine is not supported. Installing a new version replaces the old one; all your data (collections, environments, workspaces) is preserved across updates.
